Caustic soda is a solid, also known as lye in solid form, and is an inorganic strong base. The pellets are hygroscopic, meaning they attract moisture from the surroundings. The reaction with water is highly exothermic, generating a lot of heat. Never pour water into caustic soda to make a lye solution; always add caustic soda carefully to water.
The product can be used for pH adjustment, as a cleaning agent, in wastewater treatment, degreasing, etching, lye treatment, as a chemical intermediate, in the production of organic and inorganic chemicals, in paper production and bleaching, in aluminum production, and in water treatment.
